The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 1.11% to 1.92%.
The price of gold was off 0.18% to $1,434 per ounce.
Santa Ana-based title insurance company First American Financial Corp. was down about 3% to $25.86, for a market value of $2.81 billion. Insurance companies were generally down in afternoon trading Monday.
Newport Beach specialty chemicals maker American Vanguard Corp. was down about 3% to $29.95, for a market value of $846.59 million. Chemical companies were trading generally flat to down Monday afternoon.
