The Nasdaq rose 0.55% to 2,852 in midday trading Friday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.25% to 12,574.
The S&P 500 rose 0.42% to 1,359.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond fell 0.19% to 1.59%.
The price of gold was off 0.13% to $1,716 per ounce.
Shares of Irvine-based Standard Pacific Corp. rose about 5% to $6 for a market value of $2.2 billion. Homebuilders were generally mixed in afternoon trading Friday.
Newport Beach-based patent licensing company Acacia Research Corp. was up about 5% to $23 for a market value of $1.2 billion, after announcing a $100 million stock repurchase program.
