The S&P 500 was down 0.71% to 1,401.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond fell 2.06% to 1.62%.
The price of gold was down 0.35% to $1,659.
Shares of Irvine-based drive maker Western Digital Corp. fell 3% to $42 for a market value of about $11 billion.
Cupertino-based Seagate Technology LLC, Western Digital's chief rival, was also down about 4% to $32 for a recent market value of nearly $13 billion.
