The Nasdaq rose 0.90% to 3,058.20 in midday trading Thursday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.59% to 13,242.15.
The S&P 500 was up 0.65% to 1,414.64.
The yield on a 10-year treasury rose 1.83% to 1.84%.
The price of gold was up 0.64% to $1,614.30.
Shares of Costa Mesa-based networking electronics maker Emulex Corp. rose 4.87% to $6.99 a day after the company said third-party reports showed it had gained market share in the 16 gigabyte fibre channel market. Emulex had a market capitalization of about $608 million.
Tustin-based drug maker Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. was up 12.12% to $2.96 a day after Chief Executive Steven King gave a presentation on the company’s flagship cancer drug, bavituximab, at an investor conference in New York. Peregrine had a recent market value of $305 million.
Irvine-based auto-finance company Consumer Portfolio Service Inc. rose 17.06% to $2.75 to a recent market value of $55 million.
