CalAmp’s Burdiek on “Amazon Effect”

Irvine-based CalAmp Corp. (Nasdaq: CAMP) said transport and logistics companies need to get on-board with how Amazon works or risk losing business.

Chief Executive Michael Burdiek told the Business Journal, “If you don’t play by Amazon rules” they will cut you out of the supply chain. Amazon, for instance, ordered 20,000 Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans in September, likely to come from the automaker’s new, $500 million factory in South Carolina, and reports surfaced in July of an order for 2,000 specialty cargo vans from a supplier in Michigan

Burdiek said keeping up with such moves requires tech investments; CalAmp makes vehicle software and telematics products. It traded recently at a $355 million market cap.

For more on CalAmp’s work, see the July 29 print edition of the Business Journal.
