The Orange County Register’s headquarters will move to Anaheim next March.
The Register newsroom and business staff will relocate to a creative office redevelopment called Axis at 2190 Towne Centre Place, near Angel Stadium.
Register Publisher Ron Hasse said the newspaper will continue through April 2017 at its current headquarters at 625 N. Grand Ave. in Santa Ana, a facility owned by Orange County developer Mike Harrah. The printing operations eventually will move to printing plants in Riverside and on Lewis Street in Anaheim.
The newspaper, which began as the Santa Ana Register, had been at its headquarters on Grand Avenue since 1957. It currently leases two floors of the five-story building there.
Freedom Communications, former owner of the Register, sold the Register’s office building and parking structure to Harrah in 2014. Digital First Media, which bought the Register in a bankruptcy auction six months ago, sold the rest of the Santa Ana property—the printing press facility and nearby vacant land—to Harrah in late March.
Harrah is negotiating with city officials over plans for the Grand Avenue site, a project that could include office towers, hotel, shopping, and residential units.
The Register is part of the Southern California News Group, 11 daily newspapers and associated websites in Southern California.
