NB Firm: Purchase Points to Sports Analytics’ Future

A local company specializing in neurotechnology and sports performance has acquired a player tracking and safety technology firm partially owned by the National Football League Players Association.

IQMIND Inc. on March 10 announced 0the purchase of ProSports Technologies LLC in a transaction that “will provide unprecedented insights into player movements, collisions and potential injuries — marking a new era in athlete safety, injury prevention and sports performance tracking.”

The purchase will specifically allow the Newport Beach-based firm to track and monitor players by integrating real-time diagnostic technology into NFL football helmets.

ProSports Technologies’ portfolio of patents, which is now owned by IQMIND, was endorsed by Newport Beach-based sports agent Leigh Steinberg, who has represented NFL players like Patrick Mahomes, Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Aikman.

“The motion and impact sensor, along with other technology, will be integrated into equipment and protocols to aid in the early diagnosis of concussions and enhance athlete safety,” Steinberg told the Business Journal in an email.

The agent, the inspiration for the movie “Jerry Maguire,” has begun a nonprofit called The Leigh Steinberg Foundation for Concussion, Traumatic Brain Injury and Brain Health to prevent injuries.

Future of Sports Analytics

IQMIND through its purchase of ProSports Technologies, expects to work on improving diagnostic technology at more than 7,000 clinics worldwide, to better address brain health in the NFL and other contact sports.

“IQMIND is transforming sports safety and performance through AI-driven motion tracking, advancements in brain health and real-time athlete analytics—ensuring safer, smarter and data-powered decisions in sports, gaming and healthcare,” founder and Chief Executive Katarina Maloney told the Business Journal in an email.

“This acquisition positions IQMIND as the future of real-time sports analytics, betting intelligence and athlete safety solutions. Through our forces combined, we’re reshaping how teams, leagues and sports technology platforms approach performance optimization and injury prevention,” she continued.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Maloney confirmed that IQMIND and ProSports would jointly be based in Newport Beach.

“ProSports Technologies will continue to function as a division under IQMIND, maintaining its expertise in athlete motion tracking and performance analytics. At the same time, ProSports Technologies benefits from IQMIND’s neurotechnology infrastructure and strategic partnerships with healthcare providers and professional sports leagues,” Maloney said.

“This structure allows ProSports to operate semi-independently, ensuring that ongoing projects with major sports organizations, betting companies and technology partners continue seamlessly while integrating into IQMIND’s broader mission of making sports safer and performance driven.”

Plans for Clinics Nationwide

Newport Beach will be IQMIND’s headquarters and research hub, but the company plans to open clinics across the country.

Additionally, IQMIND plans to offer licensing opportunities that would help track real-time player performance data for fantasy leagues and sports betting applications.

Other licensing opportunities include using data to improve concussion protocols and post-career health monitoring.

IQMIND also intends to introduce its diagnostic tools to hockey and college football.
“We are redefining how sports technology intersects with brain health,” Maloney said in a statement.

The company was founded in 2021 and, according to Maloney’s LinkedIn profile, specializes in “redefining brain health, cognitive performance and mental wellness.”

ProSports Technologies was founded as a data collection company, specializing in motion-based analytics, sports tracking, impact analysis and performance optimization. The company patented its technological products as part of its efforts to enhance athlete safety and improve game analytics.
