Glaukos Moves Into Demodex Blepharitis Space

Topical drug could compete with Tarsus’ FDA-approved Xdemvy

Aliso Viejo-based Glaukos Corp. is entering an ophthalmic market currently dominated by Tarsus Pharmaceuticals after completing Phase 2 enrollment.

The Phase 2 study, which enrolled 275 patients, will evaluate a topical cream for the treatment of Demodex blepharitis, an inflammation of the eyelids caused by mites. It could compete with Irvine-based Tarsus’ Xdemvy, the first and only FDA-approved treatment for the disease.

“Demodex blepharitis represents a large, growing, and significantly underpenetrated market opportunity, with potentially millions of patients who remain undiagnosed or untreated today,” Chief Executive Tom Burns said in a statement.
