Orange County United Way is tapping into the cloud to help corporations promote philanthropic efforts among its employees.
The Irvine-based nonprofit organization partnered with San Francisco-based software firm Salesforce.com Inc. to create a network platform called Philanthropy Cloud.
The firms say the offering is a first of its kind.
OC United Way President and Chief Executive Susan Parks said corporate giving is becoming more important for employees, shareholders, and investors.
“Philanthropy Cloud combines innovation and social impact to bring a simple, personalized giving experience to the marketplace for the first time and makes creating a robust corporate social responsibility campaign easier than ever,” Parks said in a statement.
The platform allows employees to create a profile and set their philanthropic interest and preferences. Personalized content is then delivered to the employee—helping them find volunteer and giving opportunities.
100 Companies on Board
Users are also able to manage donations, set goals, organize and track volunteer opportunities and hours. They can compare their personal philanthropy and corporate goals against friends and teams, as well as assess their total personal, community, and company impact.
United Way said almost 100 companies have already signed on to use the platform—users include Kellogg and Deloitte—since it announced the service late last month.
It’s also planning to host a free launch event on Aug. 1 at the Lincoln Experience Center at Fashion Island to give companies a peek into the new platform.
