DOD Contract Could Be Worth $13.5M to Rainbow

Rainbow Technologies, Irvine, could be $13.5 million richer in the coming months, thanks to a Department of Defense contract for phone-privacy devices.

Under the contract, the department’s National Security Agency will use Rainbow’s Mykotronx FORTEZZA Plus Crypto Card as the security component in all secure terminal equipment used for top-secret voice and data communications throughout the DOD and other government agencies.

While the contract doesn’t guarantee any actual purchases, any NSA investment in the phone scrambling equipment up to 60,000 units will have to use the Rainbow cards.

Over the past seven years, officials say, Rainbow has supplied more than 500,000 cryptographic chips to the U.S. government.
