Executives Exit OC Register

The Orange County Register in Santa Ana has named a new interim publisher position and filled some other executive spots at the newspaper.

Ken Brusic, Register editor and senior vice president, will continue his duties as editor while also serving as interim publisher.

Brusic replaces Michael Henry, the Register’s former general manager, who had been tapped to fill the interim position left open after the retirement of Terry Horne in September.

The chief financial officer position, which Henry also held, will be filled by Chris Dahl, director of internal audit at Register parent Freedom Communications Inc. of Irvine.

Tom Kelly, senior vice president of sales and marketing, is leaving the Register, the newspaper said. Kelly will be replaced by Mike Burns.

The executive departures come as Freedom Communications sells off its newspapers amid talk of a possible sale of the Register.

Douglas Manchester, San Diego developer and owner of U-T San Diego, confirmed his interest in acquiring the Register to online daily Voice of San Diego last month.
