OCTANe Holds TIF Event

Aliso Viejo-based life sciences and technology company accelerator OCTANe held its 2019 Technology Innovation Forum at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa last week, with a focus on the evolution of data and technology.

Eight companies including Irvine-based cellular communication company CellOnyx, Irvine-based volunteering platform VolunteerCrowd and San Diego-based Internet of Things company Conectric Networks LLC presented during TIF’s Launchpad startup showcase.

Los Angeles-based dance technology company CLI Studios Inc. won the pitch competition, and received $85,000 in services from local sponsors.

The two-day event also featured breakout sessions on topics like the future of work, retail, fintech and national security and workshops on raising money, and alternative financing methods.

During the Future of Innovation panel featuring a pair of Business Journal OC 50 members, Five Point Holdings Chief Executive Emile Haddad and Chapman University President Daniele Struppa, Haddad said he doesn’t look at past wins as a roadmap to move forward.

“Disruption means that you have to divorce yourself from previous successful experiences because now it’s going to be the anchor that is going to hold us back from being able to recognize change,” he said.
