Irvine-based fintech Binji last week introduced a mobile app paired with a digital display Mastercard.
Binji allows consumers to load money into their accounts from any bank, or existing credit or debit card, and move money around between them. Chief Executive Ryan Marquis said it gives consumers access to all of their money from just one card.
Marquis called Binji a “branchless bank” and said it’s 100% free for customers, with no monthly or overdraft fees. Binji also has a peer-to-peer sharing feature which allows customers to share and spend money instantly, with no waiting period.
The startup launched last year, and has raised a $7.5 million seed round led by a strategic partner, Taiwan-based SmartDisplayer Technology Co., which also manufactures Binji’s banking cards.
Binji is gearing up for a Series A funding round, and is already in talks with several Silicon Valley-based venture capital firms, Marquis said.
The company has 12 employees, and operates out of the 400 Spectrum Center office tower.
