Aliso Viejo-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has struck a deal to acquire its second Brazilian drug maker in as many months.
Valeant said it is paying $56 million for an undisclosed maker of generic and over the counter drugs.
The Brazilian company had 2009 sales of about $28 million. The deal is set to close in the current quarter.
The company didn’t disclose the name of the drug maker, presumably out of safety concerns for the owners in Brazil, where kidnapping is a problem.
Valeant on Wednesday did name a previously undisclosed Brazilian company it acquired in March.
It paid $28 million for Instituto Terapeutico Delta Ltda of Sao Paulo, plus another $28 million for a drug plant.
“We see strong synergies between these two acquisitions and our current operations in Brazil,” Chief Executive J. Michael Pearson said.
Valeant makes skin, neurology, antiviral and generic drugs and has yearly sales of $830 million.
