The S&P 500 rose 0.42% to 1,461.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was up 4.19% to 1.79%.
The price of gold rose 0.36% to $1,753 per ounce.
Shares of Irvine-based homebuilder Standard Pacific Corp. were up about 5% to $7.71 for a recent market capitalization of $2.7 billion. Homebuilders were generally up today following the release of the Commerce Department’s September construction report showing growth not seen since 2008.
Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. rose about 3% to $19, a day after the chipmaker debuted a new set of chips for the broadband sector that use less power. Microsemi had a recent market value of $1.7 billion.
Shares of Santa Ana-based Identive Group Inc. fell about 12% to $1.13 after an analyst downgraded its stock from buy to hold. Identive had a recent market value of $68 million.
Shares of Tustin-based drug developer Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc. rose about 22% to $0.86, after the company announced it had raised $14.3 million in new financing. Peregrine had a recent market value of $90 million.
