The Nasdaq was down 0.14% to 2,900 in midday trading Tuesday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.24% to 12,846.
The S&P 500 rose 0.29% to 1,384.
The yield on a 10-year treasury bond was off 0.81% to 1.6%.
The price of gold fell 0.21% to $1,727 per ounce.
Seal Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. shares jumped 11% to $12 after the company announced plans to purchase two plants from GE Oil & Gas. The plants liquefy natural gas to be used by long-haul truckers. Clean Energy also will borrow as much as $200 million from GE to purchase the two plants. Clean Energy had a recent market value of $1 billion.
Shares of Irvine printed circuit board maker Multi-Fineline Electronix Inc., also known as M-Flex, were off about 5% to $18 for a market value of $434 million. Chipmakers were generally flat to down in afternoon trading Tuesday.
