CalOptima Awards $3.6M to Seven Organizations

Grants aim to help keep Medi-Cal members enrolled

CalOptima Health, a provider of health insurance for more than 829,000 members, is distributing $3.6 million in grant funding to seven organizations with six based in Orange County.

The selected organizations are: Anaheim-based nonprofit Access California Services, Irvine-based nonprofit Council on Aging, Family Health Matters health center in Anaheim, Tustin-based nonprofit Families Together of Orange County, Santa Ana-based public agency First 5 Orange County, Providence Mission Hospital and Los Angeles-based Vision y Compromiso.

CalOptima said that the funding will help maintain Medi-Cal coverage amid recent eligibility changes.

“With some adult Medi-Cal members soon required to reapply twice a year, we do not want paperwork or administrative barriers to stand in the way of health care,” Vicente Sarmiento, CalOptima Health board chair and Orange County supervisor, said in a statement.
