OCVA Offers Online Training in Middle Eastern Culture

The Orange County Visitors Association has produced an online video to help train hospitality and retail industry workers to welcome visitors to Orange County from the Middle East.

“We felt it important to produce a cultural training tool (for the) increasing number of guests,” from the region, said Ed Fuller, chief of the countywide destination marketing organization, in a statement.

The free video is “Welcoming Our Middle Eastern Guests to Orange County” and is posted on the Irvine-based group’s YouTube channel and its VisitTheOC.com website.

The video teaches etiquette for communicating and interacting with visitors from the Middle East and provides an overview of Islam as an influence in Middle Eastern culture.

Sponsors include Fashion Island in Newport Beach, the Irvine Spectrum Center and Macy’s. Representatives of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Cultural Understanding in Dubai advised on the effort.

The video on Middle Eastern culture follows one released last fall by the OCVA on welcoming visitors from China.
