The S&P 500 fell 0.48% to 1,875.57 in afternoon trading Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.50% to 16,447.85, while the Nasdaq was off 0.65% to 4,111.22.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond slipped 0.46% to 2.59%.
The price of gold fell 0.12% to $1,307.70 per ounce.
EDUCATION
Santa Ana-based for-profit school operator Corinthian Colleges Inc. slipped about 12% to $1.04 for a market value of $90.92 million. The company said Tuesday it was exploring its strategic options and that it’s in noncompliance on some debt covenants.
TECHNOLOGY
Lake Forest-based Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide Inc. fell about 35% to $4.13 for a market value of $93.60 million. Rival Hexagon Composites subsidiary Hexagon Lincoln formed a joint venture with Agility Fuel Systems.
REAL ESTATE
Irvine-based Standard Pacific Corp. was down about 3% to $7.66 for a market value of $2.66 million. Homebuilders were generally down on Tuesday.
