HEALTHCARE
Lake Forest-based medical device maker STAAR Surgical Co. (Nasdaq: STAA) rose 4.9% to $70.97 per share for a market cap of almost $3.3 billion. Investor’s Business Daily said yesterday that “Staar Surgical shone brightly with a gain that at one point topped 12%. Volume is running on pace to double its 50-day average level as shares rallied past a 62.61 buy point in a cuplike base.”
SERVICES
Santa Ana-based collectibles authenticator Collectors Universe Inc. (Nasdaq: CLCT) rose 6.3% to $65.39 per share for a market cap of $606 million. Stock analysis website SimplyWallStreet.com recommended Collectors Universe to investors who “like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits.” The shares have risen about 6% since last Wednesday.
