The S&P 500 dipped 0.2% during midday trading to 2,924.29, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average also ticked down 0.6% to 24,191.21.
The Nasdaq increased about 0.5% to 9,170.09.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury bond rose 4.4% to 0.71%.
The price of gold was down nearly 1% to 1,697.
The price of oil decreased 0.8% to $24.54 a barrel.
TECHNOLOGY
Costa Mesa-based Veritone Inc. (Nasdaq: VERI) jumped 9% to $6.45 and a $175 million market cap. Volume of 400,000 was lower than the daily average of 550,000. Shares for the artificial intelligence tech provider have more than quadrupled since March 16.
REAL ESTATE
Aliso Viejo-based New Home Co. Inc. (NYSE: NWHM) rose 13% to $2.77 and a $52 million market cap after reporting a positive sales update for the first phases of Sterling, a neighborhood within the Esencia community at Rancho Mission Viejo. New Home’s increase was the largest of all Orange County homebuilders, and among its biggest competitors. Shares are up nearly three times from a 52-week low of 94 cents reached on March 23.
