The S&P 500 dropped 1.7% to 3,228.4 as reported cases of the coronavirus continue to grow.
The Dow was off 1.9% to 28,323.5, while the Nasdaq fell 1.5% to 9,163.3.
Crude oil was down 1.7% to $51.25.
The price of gold fell 0.1% to $1,588.40.
HEALTHCARE
OC healthcare stocks were trading generally down on Friday, in line with peers.
Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. (NYSE: EW) dropped 6% to $219.88 and a $45.8 billion market cap. The maker of heart valves yesterday reported fourth quarter adjusted profit that missed the consensus estimate of analysts.
Shares of San Clemente-based Glaukos Corp. (NYSE: GKOS) were off 3.4% to $55.52. the maker of devices aimed at treating glaucoma had a recent market cap of $2 billion.
Irvine medical device maker Axonics Modulation Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: AXNX) fell 4.5% to $28.48 for a market cap of $969 million.
