AST to Run Face Mask Donation Drive Saturday

AST Sportswear Inc., the Brea-based manufacturer of apparel basics, is hosting a drive-thru face mask donation Saturday.

The company, which has been manufacturing face masks for hospital workers and first responders, said it will give away non-medical grade masks to the first 5,000 cars at the company’s Brea headquarters located at 2701 E. Imperial Highway.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Individuals are asked to remain in their cars when receiving the mask.

AST is part of a consortium of manufacturers that has been working with the federal government to produce face masks for essential workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company became the largest vertical apparel maker in the United States, following the sale out of bankruptcy of Los Angeles-based American Apparel Inc. and the subsequent 2017 wind down of its downtown factory.
