Rove, a local developer of full-service electric vehicle (EV) charging centers, is opening its first site with more to follow in Southern California.
The center at 1008 E. 17th St. in Santa Ana includes 40 EV chargers and ReCharge by Gelson’s, a specialty food market featuring high-quality convenience store items.
The charging center counts 28 Tesla V4 Superchargers and 12 of ABB’s premium chargers.
“Our team set out to create more than just a charging station. We designed a community destination, a place where our customers would feel at ease and supported,” said Bill Reid, chairman and CEO of Rove.
The company is teaming up with Encino-based grocer Gelson’s, which is planning to operate mini food markets at future Rove charging centers as well. The Santa Ana center’s official opening is Oct. 15.
The 1.2-acre Santa Ana site, previously home to a Hometown Buffet restaurant, is two blocks from the Santa Ana (5) Freeway.
Rove plans to develop 10 more centers across Southern California by 2026.
Each location will host 40 direct-current fast chargers (DCFC), a fresh market, a car wash, a 24/7 lounge with free Wi-Fi, and restrooms.
Other planned charging centers include sites in Costa Mesa, Corona and Long Beach.
