South Coast Plaza to Reopen

South Costa Plaza expects to reopen Monday, following the state’s release of new business reopening guidelines and the reveal of a new monitoring system for COVID-19.

The Costa Mesa shopping center, OC’s largest, reopens at 11 a.m. with more than 100 of its tenants. More than 20 restaurants at South Coast are open for outdoor dining or to-go options.

Operations of indoor malls and indoor dining, among other businesses, were ordered closed again last month following an uptick in cases and hospitalizations.

Friday’s updated criteria for determining when businesses within a county can reopen, which was named Blueprint for a Safer Economy, placed Orange County in the highest-risk, or purple, tier.

Under this updated monitoring system, indoor shopping centers in OC are allowed to reopen Monday with 25% capacity. Common areas and food courts must still remain closed.

South Coast Plaza said it is also ensuring physical distancing is followed, has a new air treatment system and has boosted sanitization efforts throughout the center.
