Bass Pro Shops Secures First OC Spot

The Irvine Co. announced plans on Friday for the first Bass Pro Shops location in Orange County, at the company’s shopping center Alton Marketplace in Irvine.  The deal is the largest reported retail lease in OC in over a year.

This will be the second spot for Bass Pro Shops in Southern California after a Rancho Cucamonga location.

The new retail superstore will take over a 140,000-square-foot space last used by a Wal-Mart at the Spectrum-area shopping center. The store will offer outdoor gear and vehicles, including factory-direct boats and off-road vehicles, in addition to outdoor equipment.

“We are excited to welcome Bass Pro Shops to Alton Marketplace, positioned at the heart of the Irvine Spectrum Retail District.  Adding America’s top outdoor brand will be a major draw to this premier location,” senior VP of Irvine Co. Retail Properties Ken Gillett said in a statement provided to the Business Journal.

Bass Pro Shops was founded by Johnny Morris in 1972, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The retailer reports around 200 million customers in its stores each year.

The Alton Marketplace currently has 345,250 square feet of leasable space and reported $105 million in taxable sales for the 12-month period ending in June 2021, ranking No. 20 on the Business Journal’s list of largest shopping centers.
