Orange County automakers started the year on a positive note with the exception of Hyundai Motor America and its Genesis brand, which saw January sales decline for the month.
Mitsubishi Motors N.A. Inc. reported sales of 8,480 units for the month—its best January sales since 2007, the automaker, said. Mazda Motor of America Inc. said it posted its best January sales since 1994 selling 24,962 units. Kia Motors America Inc. also saw a very slight gain with 35,628 vehicles for the month, up 0.01%.
Hyundai and Genesis sold 39,629 and 1,613 units, respectively, for an 11% decline apiece year-over-year.
U.S. carmakers in general reported higher January sales but industry analysts forecast weaker sales in 2018, according to Autodata.
