OC Automakers Report Strong November

November proved a good month for Orange County’s largest automakers, with all notching gains.

Fountain Valley-based Hyundai Motor America Inc.’s November sales totaled 60,601 vehicles, up 6% from the year-ago period. The Elantra was the automaker’s top seller for the month, with 17,322 units sold, off 4.6% from a year earlier.

Irvine automaker Kia Motors America Inc. said it sold 50,504 vehicles for the month, up 12% from a year ago. The company’s Sportage crossover utility vehicle was the top seller in November with 8,125 sold, up 17% from the same time last year.

Mazda North American Operations of Irvine saw an 18% increase in sales to 24,374 vehicles, led by the CX-5. A total of 14,139 of the compact sport utility vehicles were sold last month, up nearly 30% from a year earlier.

Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc., which is in the midst of relocating its Cypress headquarters to Franklin, Tennessee, reported November sales up 6.5% to 8,188 vehicles. The performance was driven by sales of the Outlander Sport, which rose 8.4% from the year-ago period to 2,795.
