WHY: Chairs indigenous clan of Serrano people located in San Bernardino region, which holds ownership interest in six hotel properties, approximately 2,000 keys total.  

IN THE NEWS: Most recent investor in Dana Point’s Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort & Club, taking a 40% stake in 2023, an estimated $240M investment, which marked the group’s first reported investment in OC. Has option to increase stake in 400-room hotel in the future. 

NOTABLE: Valbuena has held several elected and appointed positions within San Manuel tribal government for nearly 50 years before serving as chair.
