Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro and Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige on Sunday gave details at what’s in store for Disney California Adventure in Anaheim, including a Marvel-themed ride and new plans for Pixar Pier.
During a panel at the D23 Expo, held in Anaheim Sept. 9-11, the Disney executives shared a ‘Multiverse’-themed ride—one that hinges on theories laid out in the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe films—will join the two existing rides at Avengers Campus “soon.”
The 6-acre campus opened last year and currently includes two rides: Spider-Man Web Slingers and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout—formerly Tower of Terror.
Though an exact location for the third ride was not revealed, fans expect the ride to be within the building in the center of the campus that’s currently used for live action shows, and the parking lot behind the building. That site was once envisioned to hold the Quinjet e-ticket attraction before it was put on hold earlier this year.
“We’ve been talking about a third ride for Avenger’s Campus since the beginning, but the introduction of the Multiverse sent us back to the drawing board for what it could mean for the land,” D’Amaro said.
The ride will include a new villain character, King Thanos, who will take on the Avengers in an interactive ride, for which an opening date was not announced.
Around the corner from Avenger’s Campus in DCA is the Pacific Wharf, the waterfront boardwalk area that opened in 2001 along with the theme park. A new theme, dubbed San Fransokyo from the animated film “Big Hero 6,” is in store for the area in a makeover that will blend technology and tradition, according to D’Amaro.
The nearby 481-room Paradise Pier Hotel is getting a new look and new name, too: the Pixar Place Hotel, D’Amaro revealed at the expo.
