Midday Stock Roundup

The S&P 500 increased 0.3% in midday trading to 2,997.51.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a 0.1% increase to 27,022.96.

The Nasdaq climbed 0.3% to 8,152.

Crude Oil rose 0.35 to $53.53 a barrel.

Gold was up 0.3% to $1,499 an ounce.

The yield on a 10-year bond dropped 0.5% to 1.74%.

HEALTH

Lake Forest-based Staar Surgical Co. (Nasdaq: STAA) climbed 3.8% to $27.40 and a $1.2 billion market cap. Shares of the device maker, which makes implantable foldable lenses for the eye, are up about 12% since Oct. 8.

Tustin-based Avid Bioservices Inc. (CDMO) jumped 8% to $5.41 and a $304 million market cap. Stephens & Co. initiated coverage on Avid, a contract manufacturer of medicines, with an overweight.
