Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi Corp. announced an agreement to purchase Santa Rosa chipmaker Centellax Inc., which makes high-speed and RF chips and related components for the optical communications and Ethernet data markets.
It also revealed plans to repurchase up to $100 million of its common stock.
Terms of the small Centellax deal were not disclosed, and the company said it does not expect the transaction to have a material effect on revenue or expenses.
Microsemi said the repurchasing program allows it to acquire any amount of common stock before Sept. 20, 2016. The company will fund the purchases from working capital.
It’s the second Ethernet-related buy in the past few months for Microsemi, an infrequent acquirer. In July, it purchased Cork, Ireland-based Mingoa Ltd. for an undisclosed sum.
