AFFLUENT WOMEN IN THE U.S.
Survey by Spectrem Group’s Affluent Market Research Program
The number of affluent women in the U.S. increased by 68% from 8.8 million in 1996 to 14.8 million in 1998, while the number of affluent men grew by 36% from 10.6 million in 1996 to 14.3 million. The affluent women tend to be younger than affluent men with a mean age of 50 vs. 57. Only 65% of the women are married vs. 81% of the men, and only 12% are retired, vs. 21% for the men.
