Santa Ana-based Sangui BioTech International Inc. said its Singapore subsidiary has begun setting up biomedical labs in the Asian city-state’s Science Park II research and development center.
“We wanted to expand our worldwide presence, particularly in Asia,” said John Kiang, a product and business development consultant with Sangui. “Singapore enables us to do this, especially for attracting regional capital.”
Singapore operations are set to start by the end of October. Work there will include testing the effectiveness and tolerance of artificial oxygen carriers and implanted glucose sensors, the company’s two main development projects.
Singapore employees will receive training at subsidiaries SanguiBioTech AG and GlukoMediTech AG, both located in Witten, Germany.
Sangui began as SanguiBioTech AG in Witten in 1995. The firm moved its official headquarters to Santa Ana as the newly established Sangui BioTech International Inc. in 1997.
Most members of the company’s board of directors as well as senior managers are based in Germany. The company employs about 25 people worldwide.
