Thomas P. Cox Architects Inc. promoted Irwin Yau to senior associate. Also, Kevin Stadler and Susan Spohn were promoted to associates. Yau is a design team member for high-density, urban and mixed-use housing projects. Stadler manages the firm’s graphic design studio. Spohn is responsible for project contracts.

Jeffrey T. Gill was elected president of the California Council of the American Institute of Architects. Gill is vice president and director of Western regional business development in the Irvine office of MCG Architecture. Gill has 25 years of experience working with retail centers, hotels, office buildings and entertainment companies.
The National Association of Computer Consultant Businesses re-elected Steven Norris to its board. Norris is cofounder of Irvine-based EdgeTech Consulting Inc.
AUTOMOTIVE
Irvine-based Toyota Material Handling USA Inc. named Jeff Reid national information technology manager. Reid was previously vice president for Conexant Systems Inc. He is a member of the Southern California Society of Information Management and was a judge for the AeA OC Council High Tech Innovation Awards.
EDUCATION
The Southern California College of Optometry named Kevin L. Alexander president, effective July 1. Alexander is dean of Ferris State University, Michigan College of Optometry. He is serving a one-year term as the president of the American Optometric Association, which ends June 30.
HEALTHCARE
Irvine-based Therox Inc. named Shelley B. Thunen chief financial officer. Thunen has more than 25 years of experience in medical device and technology companies. Most recently she was executive vice president and chief financial officer of IntraLase Corp.
LAW
Dorsey & Whitney LLP named Joo Ryung Kang, Mandana Massoumi and Kent J. Schmidt partners in its Irvine office. Kang focuses on corporate practice, Massoumi specializes in labor and employment and Schmidt will work in the firm’s trial practice.
Robert M. Tennant joined Merhab Robinson & Jackson A Professional Corp. in Santa Ana as an associate. The firm provides legal services in areas of corporate law, real estate law and business planning.
MEDIA
Kirwan Rockefeller was named editor of The California Psychologist, the bi-monthly publication of the California Psychologist Association. Rockefeller is director of Arts and Humanities programs at UC Irvine, Extension.

Yamaha Corp. of America, Pro Audio & Combo Division named Cliff DeManty sales and marketing manager for the company’s consumer products department. Jeff Hawley became manager of the newly created marketing content department. Nic Chaffee and Ron Martino were promoted to project managers. Dennis Webster was named marketing manager of Yamaha Guitars. Garth Gilman became director of administration and Greg Crane moved to percussion tech specialist at Yamaha Drums.
NONPROFIT
Rigo Diaz III and Patrick Merell joined the board of directors at Blind Children’s Learning Center. Diaz is president of Four Corners Realty Financial Inc. and Merell is chief executive of Print Tech Solutions. The Blind Children’s Learning Center provides direct services to blind and visually impaired children.
The J.F. Shea Thera-peutic Riding Center added Sandy Webster as program and education director. Webster will expand the Center’s therapy staff and instr-uctor programs and education. She is one of a small group that holds dual-master therapeutic riding instructor status in two countries: the U.S. and Canada.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of OC named Lisa Wood chief development officer. Wood will expand the nonprofit’s fundraising programs. Most recently she worked for the Mission Hospital Foundation.
REAL ESTATE
Madison Street Partners in Irvine added John Bucher and Greg Marshall as partners. Additionally, Carry Booth joined the firm as a vice president. Madison Street Partners is a commercial real estate services and brokerage company.
Bernie Labowitz joined Orange-based Present Value Properties as senior vice president. Labowitz is a 38-year veteran of the real estate industry. He was formerly vice president of leasing for World Premier Investments in Santa Ana.
