David Paine is on a roll. First, OC’s top public relations exec cashes in chips by selling 80% of PainePR (reported here last week and detailed by Jennifer Bellantonio on page 16). Next, his national nonprofit, One Day’s Pay, wins a unanimous Congressional resolution calling upon the president to recognize Sept. 11 as a day of voluntary service. Paine’s next step: a presidential proclamation “transforming a day of terror and sadness into a day of generosity and compassion.” Most Sept. 11 organizations and JPMorgan Chase Corp. (a $50,000 donor) support the group, founded by Paine, with his friend Jay Winuk and Alice Hoglan. Winuk’s brother Glenn was a volunteer firefighter killed in the World Trade Center; Hoglan’s son Mark was
one of the heroic passengers on United Flight 93. Paine, who said he was inspired by the power of good deyeds as portrayed in
the movie, “Pay It Forward,” can point to
