Robert Whiton of Tustin-based Net Solutions was recently elected president of the Business Technology Association’s national chapter. He will take up the post July 1.
The international organization, with approximately 2,500 members, is composed of computer resellers, distributors, manufacturers and networking professionals and is based in Kansas City.
Whiton is also president of BTA’s local affiliate group, NetTeCH, which has about 20 members.
In order to compete with larger technology companies, it’s essential that small firms become part of an organization such as NetTeCH, Whiton said.
“We can help member companies offer a full scope of services to their clients,” he said.
Local members include leasing company Pacifica Capital, which rents to mainly high-tech clients, and PF Micro and Netus Inc. both computer networking companies.
Within the organization there is no competition, he said. Rather, the companies work together on various projects.
“I’m really into the concept of partnering,” Whiton said. In addition, the organization focuses on helping its member companies grow through business support services such as marketing and legal issues.
“That’s one we use quite a bit,” Whiton said of his own business.
The cost for membership is $275 per year.
