Nick Yocca, president and co-founder of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, received the Chairman award from the Forum for Corporate Directors. Forum Chairman Ed Merino singled out Yocca as an “outstanding example of corporate citizenship” in Orange County.

Irvine-based Holly-wood South Visual Media won three Telly Awards for video production in 2001. Hollywood South has won 28 Telly Awards in 10 consecutive years.

Corona del Mar author and philanthropist Douglas K. Freeman received the Lauds & Laurels honor and Outstanding Community Friend award from the Alumni Association at the University of California, Irvine, which acknowledged Freeman’s contributions to business and the community.

Richard Lewis, senior vice president of human resources for the Disneyland Resort, was named Human Resources Executive of the Year by the National Human Resources Association’s OC affiliate.

The American Geophysical Union awarded University of California, Irvine, Chancellor Ralph J. Cicerone its 2002 Roger Revelle Medal. Cicerone is one of the leading experts on global warming and climate change.

Dorothy Stratton, ma-nager of guest services for the Disneyland Resort Hotels, was named the 2002 Disneyland Resort VoluntEAR of the Year. Stratton was lauded for her efforts with Paint Your Heart Out Anaheim and the MS Bike Ride.

J.F. Shea Co. donated seven acres to the Fran Joswick Therapeutic Riding Program in San Juan Capistrano, a therapeutic riding center in Southern California. The gift provides a permanent home for the nonprofit facility.

Irvine-based architectural planning and interior design firm McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners was awarded highest honors in the National Association of Home Builders /Professional Builder Magazine’s Best in American Living Awards for their design of Village One at Newport Bluffs.

The Building Owner and Managers Ass-ociation’s OC chapter bestowed The Irvine Company’s Jamboree Center with The Office Building of the Year award for an office building exceeding 1 million square feet. The building’s management team earned the Excellence in Management award.

The Southern California Restaurant Writers Association awarded Accents Restaurant at The Sutton Place Hotel with the Golden Sceptre, their highest rating, and the Golden Bacchus award.

Gerald Gates, president of Beazer Homes Southern California, was named the Building Industry Association of Southern California’s 2001 Builder of the Year.

University of California, Irvine scientists Vladimir Mandelshtam and Hongkai Zhao were named 2002 Sloan Research Fellows. The two-year, $40,000 fellowship is granted to the best young faculty members in the nation.

McCarthy Building Cos. was named 2001-2002 General Contractor of the Year by the American Subcontractors Association Los Angeles/OC Chapter.

The OC Bar Association has awarded its highest honor, the Franklin G. West Award, to Thomas R. Malcolm, a partner in the Irvine office of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue. Malcolm is a former president of the OC Bar Association.

Werner Escher, executive director of domestic and international markets for South Coast Plaza, received the Shop Am-erica’s inaugural Shop-ping Tourism Leader of the Year Award.

Ron Oakley, group executive for Aliso Viejo-based Fluor Corp.’s infrastructure group, was recognized by ENR Magazine as one of the Top 25 Newsmakers for 2001. He was recognized for his work on the South Carolina Conway Bypass project.

The OC Friendship Center recognized Doug Barton, OC director of behavioral health, Antonio Cagnolo, owner of Antonello Ristorante and OC Sheriff Michael Carona for their commitment to combating mental illness.
