Irvine-based Fisher & Phillips LLP’s managing partner James J. McDonald Jr. was named a 2008 Super Lawyer for Southern California by Law & Politics magazine. He has 23 years of experience practicing labor and employment law exclusively representing management. McDonald counsels employers on labor and employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions. He is lead editor of the treatise Mental and Emotional Injuries in Employment Litigation.
Steven G. Economos was named 2007 Broker of the Year. Economos is senior vice president at NAI Capital’s Newport Beach office. He was the highest grossing broker among the brokerage’s 16 Southern California offices. This is the second time Economos earned top broker status with NAI Capital. Other NAI Capital award winners were: George Economos, Geoffrey DeWolf, John Bosko, Paul Fisher and Matt Moore.
South Coast Repertory Artistic Directors David Emmes and Martin Benson were awarded the 2007-08 Margo Jones Medal. Emmes and Benson founded South Coast Repertory in 1964. The Jones Medal honors their lifetime commitment to living theater. In 1988 the company received a Tony Award for its contributions to American theater.
Mission San Juan Capistrano honored staff members and volunteers at the 2008 Volunteer Employee Recognition Luncheon. Recipients were: Audrey Hart, Rocky and Carol James, Jan MacDonald, Jan Siegel, Anabelle Isky, Lloyd and Barbara LeBlanc, Jim Leone, Jan Sorensen, Jean Hillier, Teeter Romero and Babe Ramos. Employees Jerry Nieblas and Cha Cha Belardes were honored for 25 years of service.
Eight attorneys from Newport Beach-based Newmeyer & Dillion LLP were listed in the Southern California Super Lawyers survey published by Los Angeles Magazine. Cofounding partners Greg Dillion and Tom Newmeyer have been listed since its original publication in 2004. The two partners, along with litigation partner John O’Hara, were also on a roster of OC’s Top 50 Super Lawyers for 2008.
The Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce honored Rutan & Tucker LLP in Costa Mesa with a bronze award. The award recognizes Rutan’s contributions to help underwrite Chamber-based initiatives. The award was presented during the Chamber’s Annual Investors Meeting. Partner A. Patrick Mu & #324;oz is director of the Chamber.
Orange-based Get Flipped received an award for its event photography product called Flip Zone, a strip of animated photos. Special Events Magazine chose Flip Zone as the 2007 Gala Awards winner in the best new innovative product category. Get Flipped was founded in 2004 by Raleigh Souther. The company provides event photography that creates interlaced 3-D images of guests.
University of California, Irvine Extension presented its Partnership Award to the OC Workforce Investment Board, Advanced Medical Optics Inc., Beckman Coulter Inc. and Edwards Lifesciences Corp. The award is given to a Southern California organization that enhances continuing education programs. These honorees collaborated with UC Irvine Extension to create the Leadership Management for Technology Professionals program.
The OC Council of the Boy Scouts of America named Alfredo Amezcua a 2008 Man of Character. Amezcua is a trustee on the board for Rancho Santiago Community College District. Honorees are chosen for contributions to the OC community and for demonstration of Scout values.
Anaheim-based circuit board maker DDi Corp. received a Boeing Performance Excellence Award for 2007. Boeing Co. presents the awards annually to recognize superior performance by its suppliers.
Karl H. Romero was accepted into Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisor Group, an exclusive group of financial advisers. Romero works at LPL Financial in Santa Ana.
Visioneering Studios in Irvine received three Solomon Awards for its architectural work at Crossroads Christian Church. The design firm won awards for Most Innovative Church Facility, Best Church Design, New Construction Project and Best Overall Building Project.
