The OC Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa received a $10 million grant from Lawrence and Kristina Dodge. The gift is contingent upon the center raising an additional $20 million within two years. The funds will be used to help pay off the debt on the center’s Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. The gift brings total fundraising efforts to $176.5 million. The education center at the concert hall will be named in honor of the Dana Point couple.

UCI’s Paul Merage School of Business received an endowment gift of $6.6 million from The Beall Family Foundation. Donald R. Beall is former chief executive of Rockwell International Corp. The gift will launch programs at the school’s Don Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Additionally, the donation will bring scholars and business leaders to the campus to discuss innovation.

The Volunteers for Justice Dinner for the Public Law Center raised $465,000. The money supports the Center’s mission to provide access to justice for low-income OC residents. Some 750 attorneys, judges and business leaders attended the event. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was the keynote speaker. Minyard Morris LLP was named Law Firm of the Year; John Hurlbut Jr. of Rutan & Tucker LLP was named Attorney of the Year; and Macy’s West received Corporate Partner of the Year.

Kohl’s Illinois Inc. donated $215,000 to Children’s Hospital of OC. The funds will benefit the CHOC Community Education Department. This department provides a variety of injury prevention and wellness programs to families throughout the county. Additionally, Kaiser Permanente made a matching gift of $7,500 to the hospital in support of the CHOC Breathmobile. This money will allow a team member to visit asthmatic children at their homes for one year.

The National Children’s Oral Health Foundation awarded grants totaling $168,000 to Orange County-based nonprofit, university and hospital-based dental programs. The programs were: Community Care Health Centers, Friends of Children, St. Joseph’s Hospital Puente a la Salud and The Gary Center. These facilities are members of the foundation’s national oral health Affiliate Network. They provide oral health treatment and preventative education to children and families.

The Orange Catholic Foundation granted $151,000 to diocesan elementary schools for tuition assistance, materials and other programs. Most of these funds were raised at the Annual Conference on Business and ethics in Santa Ana. The Orange Catholic Foundation was established in 2001. It encourages families to create a legacy through current and deferred philanthropic gifts. Most of its funds support schools and ministries in the Diocese of Orange.

Thomas P. Cox Architects Inc. received the Dream Builder Award at the Habitat for Humanity of OC Annual Gala. The 260 attendees raised more than $100,000. The award is presented to a local corporation that works with Habitat to build a better community. For the past 10 years, Thomas P. Cox Architects has hosted an annual benefit golf tournament for Habitat. This year, the tournament raised $60,000.

Almost 1,000 attended the Eric Marienthal and Friends Concert benefiting High Hopes. The evening featured Marienthal’s band, silent and live auctions led by Chuck Dryer. In all, the Evening of Hope raised $100,000 for the nonprofit. High Hopes created the first brain injury program in the country. Other guest artists were Peter White and singers Vesta Williams and Ellis Hall.

Providence Speech and Hearing Center raised $86,000 at its 23rd annual Golf Classic in Tustin Ranch. The proceeds help the center provide speech and hearing services for the treatment and prevention of speech and hearing disorders. Platinum sponsors for the event were the Word & Brown Cos. and Comerica Bank. In November, Providence will host its renowned annual costume ball at the Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, Ragtime-A Roaring Night at the Speakeasy.

Commercial Real Estate Women of OC raised $40,500 for local charities, WisePlace and the Building Block Foundation Fund. CREW-OC aims to advance the success of women in commercial real estate. WisePlace provides shelter, food, clothing and supportive services for homeless women. The Building Block Foundation Fund offers financial support to youth.

Edison International gave a $10,000 grant to Laguna College of Art & Design. The funds will benefit its summer scholarship programs for high school students and teachers. This is the third year Edison International has provided funding for the summer scholarship programs. The programs are: Summer Portfolio Development for Talented Teens and Professional Development for High School Art Educators.

Laura’s House in Ladera Ranch received a $9,000 donation from the OC Region of Wells Fargo. The funds will specifically benefit the Heart program. Heart stands for Healthy Emotions and Attitudes in relationships for Teens. The program provides teens with tools to live healthy, nonviolent and successful lives.

The Center for Hope and Healing received a $2,500 donation from Ingram Micro Inc. in Santa Ana. The center provides long-term affordable mental health counseling to adults, children and families.
