Chapman University is moving and expanding one of its adult education arms.
The unit, Chapman University College, plans to relocate its Moreno Valley campus to Riverside by next spring.
The Riverside campus will be 50% bigger than Chapman’s Moreno Valley school.
“We need more administrative space and classroom space,” said Teresa Hull, associate dean of operations for Chapman University College.
The branch will be in Canyon Crossings Corporate Center office and retail center, which is set to be built at the Interstate 215 and Highway 60 juncture.
Construction is expected to begin this fall and wrap up by the first quarter of 2006.
The Riverside campus will take one floor in a three-story building at Canyon Crossroads. The 15,000 square feet of space Chapman is taking is up from the 10,000 square feet of space the school has in Moreno Valley.
Chapman officials said they expect about 500 students to attend classes in Riverside, up from 400 at the Moreno Valley campus.
The Moreno Valley campus has about 10 faculty and staff. It offers adult classes toward several general bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degrees in teaching.
Chapman University College has two other branches in the Inland Empire,in Ontario and Victor Valley. In all, Chapman has 23 branches in California and four in Washington state.
The school signed a 10-year lease for the Riverside space with developer Transcan Development LLC of Alamo.
