Ameriquest Gives $1M to Bush Ceremony

Four units of Orange-based mortgage lender Ameriquest Capital Corp. each have given $250,000,the maximum amount sought,to President Bush’s reinauguration ceremonies set for this month.

In all, Ameriquest gave $1 million for the celebration, via four of its business units: Argent Mortgage Co. of Orange; Ameriquest Capital Corp. of Orange; Long Beach Acceptance Corp., which is based in New Jersey and has operations in Anaheim; and Town and Country Credit of Irvine.

Roland Arnall owns Ameriquest and its subsidiaries. After years of supporting Democrats, Arnall has become a big giver to Bush in recent years. A company spokeswoman said Arnall backs the president because he shares Bush’s views on national security.

For Bush’s re-election bid and other races, Arnall gave $5 million to Republicans. That put him behind only to Boon Pickens’ $5.5 million in election giving.

The committee for Bush’s reinauguration ceremonies said it planned to raise $40 million to $50 million for the events, scheduled for Jan. 18-21.
