Newport Beach’s Squar, Milner, Peterson, Miranda & Williamson LLP, the largest accounting firm based in Orange County, has acquired Thomashow, Brown & Paialii LLP of Los Angeles.
Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Squar acquired Thomashow to broaden its business in Los Angeles, according to managing partner Stephen Milner.
Both firms will operate under the Squar, Milner, Peterson, Miranda & Williamson name.
Squar is the No. 6 accounting firm overall in the county after the local offices of the Big Four and a pair of regional firms.
It’s the highest ranking firm that’s actually based here, according to the Business Journal’s yearly list of accounting firms that appears in the July 21 edition of the newspaper.
Squar has 151 accountants at its Newport Beach headquarters and 187 accountants in all, including at offices in San Diego, Los Angeles and the Cayman Islands.
Squar’s buyout out of Thomashow will boost the firm’s total headcount to more than 200 accountants, according to the firm.
The firm specializes in tax, accounting and consulting work for midsize private and public companies and wealthy individuals.
Squar competes with a handful of large and small competitors including Deloitte LLP in Costa Mesa, Ernst & Young LLP in Irvine, KPMG LLP in Costa Mesa, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Irvine, Anaheim-based White Nelson & Co. and Irvine-based Haskell & White LLP.
The acquisition of Thomashow is the latest of a series of moves in recent years.
Squar acquired San Diego-based Peterson & Co. in 2006.
The firm opened an office in Los Angeles in 2007 and another one in the Cayman Islands earlier this year.
