Irvine Translation Firm Acquired

Welocalize Inc. acquired Irvine-based Global Language Solutions on undisclosed terms.

The translation and interpretation services company, which posted $20.7 million in revenue last year and employs about 100, will remain in Orange County.

Its founders, Olga Smirnova and Inna Kassatkina, plan to retire by the end of the year, after the transition period, according to the company. The 22-year-old firm, which also has an office in Hungary, will keep its name for now.

“GLS is strategically important to us because of their broad experience and extensive top-tier clients in life sciences and healthcare,” Erin Wynn, chief customer officer and head of regulated industries at Frederick, Md.-based Welocalize, said in a statement.

Welocalize provides translation services in more than 175 languages, as well as localization, where translated content is adapted to fit cultural parameters. It employs 1,000 at offices in the U.S., United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Japan and China.

Its client roster includes Dell Inc., TripAdvisor, Inc., Cisco Systems Inc., Deere & Co. and Uber.

“We are looking forward to joining forces with the most innovative and customer-centric organization in language services to continue our comprehensive and highly customized solutions for global brands and front-runners in life sciences and regulated industries,” Global Language Solutions’ Chief Executive Smirnova said in a statement.
