Orange County Music & Dance (OCMD), a performing arts nonprofit, has acquired a new building in Irvine to expand its programming after cancelling previous plans in February to build an all-new campus at the Great Park.
The Irvine-based nonprofit bought the building for $10.8 million, according to CoStar.
OCMD said the new 25,000-square-foot facility on 17872 Cowan Ave. will act as a second campus, doubling its instructional space to 50,000 square feet. The building is located one minute away from the organization’s current headquarters on 17620 Fitch, and is expected to open in November after renovations.
The nonprofit also expects to increase enrollment by 400 students with the new facility.
“It will provide the resources to truly be the premier performing arts program accessible to people of all ages,” OCMD’s newest Chief Executive Ralph Opacic said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful for the support we’ve received from our generous donors and our Board for making this new facility and program expansion possible.”
