Rockwell Collins Completes Acquisition of Sony Trans Com

Rockwell Collins completed the acquisition of Sony Trans Com last week, which includes a 430-employee Irvine facility.

Sony Trans Com is now a part of Pomona-based Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems, a division of Rockwell Collins that manufactures and supplies in-flight entertainment systems for airlines.

Rockwell said it will continue operations at the Irvine facility.

“We plan on keeping the same level of employees in Irvine, as operations in Orange County will significantly enhance our business and add to our growth,” said Neil Keating, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins Passenger Systems.

“It’s always important to maintain facilities close to an airport, and adding the facility in close proximity to John Wayne Airport is definitely an advantage.”

With the deal, Rockwell Collins also inherits Sony Trans Com plants in London, Hong Kong and Singapore, though the ultimate fate of these facilities has yet to be determined.

Rockwell Collins is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and manufactures communication and aviation electronics for commercial, military and government aircraft.
