Spring Commencements Canceled

OC universities canceled spring graduation ceremonies with one saying a late summer or early fall reset could happen and another floating the idea of a virtual offering.

  • Chapman University said its May 22 to 24 end-of-termer is off; President Daniele Struppa hopes for a reschedule.

“The challenge will be to find a date that will provide a safe and healthy event, while providing enough advanced notice to make travel plans to campus,” he said.

  • University of California-Irvine is exploring the possibility of a virtual ceremony in June or a live one during the winter 2020 recess, university officials said.
  • California State University-Fullerton’s festivities are off until further notice; no timeframe was given for the reset.
