The S&P 500 was off 0.1% to 4,229.15 in Monday midday trading.
The Dow Jones rose 0.7% to 35,011.17.
The Nasdaq dropped 1.4% to 13,557.33 following losses by market leaders including Apple Inc., Facebook Inc. and Amazon.com.
The yield on a 10-year Treasury jumped 1% to 1.593%.
The price of gold increased 0.3% to $1,837.50.
The price for a barrel of oil decreased 0.1% to $64.83.
HEALTHCARE
Orange County healthcare firms were trending down in Monday midday trading, led by Lake Forest-based STAAR Surgical Company (Nasdaq: STAA). The implantable lens maker fell 13% to $120.22 for a market cap of $5.6 billion. Shares for the company rose as much as 11% last week after delivering earnings that beat analyst estimates.
Irvine-based Inari Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: NARI) was down 5.6% to $91.08 and a $4.5 billion market cap. Shares for the company, which are trading at half their daily average volume, are off more than 20% in the past week. Inari, a blood clot removal device maker, is slated to release first quarter earnings on Tuesday.
Shares of Glaukos Corp. (NYSE: GKOS) fell 4.9% to $78.96 and a $3.6 billion market cap. The Aliso Viejo-based medical device maker is still up almost 20% since the start of the year.
