Tustin-based MemorialCare Medical Foundation said today that it entered a joint venture with Birmingham, Ala.-based Surgical Care Affiliates LLC to develop, buy and manage surgery centers in Orange and Los Angeles counties.
MemorialCare Medical Foundation is the medical group division of the $2 billion nonprofit MemorialCare Health System, which is now based in Fountain Valley but is moving to Costa Mesa later this year.
The joint venture is known as Beach Surgical Holdings LLC. It is owned and operated by MemorialCare Medical Foundation and Surgical Care Affiliates, and it will work with local doctors. The first locations are in Laguna Hills and Laguna Woods.
Irvine-based Monarch HealthCare, A Medical Group Inc. is also involved in the joint venture.
Surgical Care Affiliates operates 145 facilities in 32 states. The company said that more than 6,000 doctors perform procedures in its facilities annually.
