Taco Bell announced Tuesday the return and permanent addition of the popular Mexican Pizza to its menu on September 15 after selling out within two months earlier this year.
Chief Executive Mark King told Food and Wine that sales for the fast-food dish were seven times higher than its prior run as a permanent item on the Irvine-based chain’s menu.
Head of Marketing and Communications Matt Prince also took to LinkedIn in July to explain the company’s decision to pull the Mexican Pizza from the menu a month ago. The sales “plus supply chain issues are causing the replenishment to take longer than expected,” Prince wrote.
Taco Bell counts 7,831 restaurants as of May and saw total revenues of $517 million for the second quarter, reported by parent company Yum Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM) in Louisville.
